We can’t afford to wait until 2029 to undo the damage. Moreover, that work can’t just be left to someone else to do: ordinary citizens must be the basic drivers in the recovery of our democracy.
Here’s what you can do.
BE INFORMED
Many Americans, overwhelmed by the onslaught of negative news, are choosing to tune it out. Trump and his administration, however, are counting on their ability to numb the public into apathy and submission. By flooding the zone with unlawful acts and outrageous behavior, they seek to overrun the opposition and bludgeon the public into acquiescence. Americans must stay informed about what’s at stake and what they risk losing. Betrayed [LINK] can serve as a resource and a reminder.
SPREAD THE WORD
Share what you learn, both from this book and from other resources through conversations, emails and social media postings, and encourage those with whom you communicate to do the same. Share this website and share our book. None of us needs to be afraid to speak if all of us speak together.
DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY
Congress has been shockingly supine in the face of Trump’s campaign of destruction. It has failed to uphold its constitutional duties as a co-equal branch of government, and it has ceded its power to the administration. Members of Congress will not act unless they hear from their constituencies. Demand action. Demand accountability. Demand investigation. Demand change. Write your representative or senator now.
VOTE
It’s no exaggeration to say that the 2026 midterms will be among the most consequential elections in U.S. history. Register to vote if you haven’t already and ensure that your voice will be heard. And then do more:
-
Volunteer to register voters.
-
Participate in voter education and “get out the vote” efforts in your community.
-
Donate to the candidates who represent your views.
Congress must set aside its partisan allegiances to rescue the American project, stand up for the citizens who elected them to power, and exercise their constitutional duties as a co-equal branch of government. It must hold the administration accountable and consider whether this destructive presidency can be allowed to run its full course. Learn how you can help.
